Backyard Theater Showcase – Lost Ark Theater

Cody here, a big shout out to Brandon for sharing his Lost Ark Theater.  Bradly has done something pretty cool with his floating movie screen idea to compensate for a second story deck.  Just like Backyard Movies in general, it is a simple idea that has a magical effect!

Location: Northern Virginia

Length of Season:  ~Apr – Dec

How did you get started?:  Built a HUGE new deck and wanted to watch TV on it… fell onto BYT site and went from

How many years have you been doing it?: 2 years

Traditions:  Constantly evolving, show some trailers (when there’s good one out), some old

commercials, etc.

Audience: Family & friends and a few neighbors (20-30)

Favorite Events:  Movies, will incorporate live TV in the future.

Mechanism for lifting movie screen into the air…work smarter not harder!

Tubing) suspended 30’ above ground between 2 trees in order to view from top of deck.

Projector:  EIKI  LC-NB4S

Sound System:  ION IPA-23 speakers with a mix board feed from source.

Media Source: DVD Player

Any projected upgrades:  New long throw projector mounted in upstairs bedroom.

 

MISCELLANEOUS:

Seating:  Deck furniture, blankets and propane heater (during winter months)

Pest Control: Still working on it, but

use the citronella tiki torches and spray yard down with bug killer a few hours prior to viewing.

 

Food:  People bring their own, but we do have a popcorn machine and want to eventually have a full service outdoor kitchen with hot dogs, nachos and possibly personal pizzas…

Lighting:  Mini string lights above…

Have you ever done any cool party ideas?:  Not really, just love showing movies…

Popcorn and a Kegerator on the deck so you don’t have to miss any action!

What do you love most about Backyard Movies/Outdoor Theaters?: Just Friends & Family having a good time.

What advice would you give someone who is just getting started?  Don’t rush, plan, plan, plan and go simple to find what works, what doesn’t…   you are your own worst critic…
