We do pizza night 2-4 times a month and my wife and I usually divide and conquer. I make the dough, she rolls it out, I fire up the oven and make wings, while she and my daughter build the pies. Sometimes we each do a pizza, other times we do a few larger ones that we share. This is where the problem would occur, my wife would eyeball the crust size while making larger pizzas, only to discover when I was trying to launch the pizza it was slightly too large for the oven. This would often end in a mess and flared tempers (on my part)…when everyone knows pizza night should be one of the happiest days of the week!
I discovered this silicone dough rolling mat from Pizzacraft while surfing the net, I was a little reluctant to shell out the money, but I am glad I did! Since we have purchased it, no more oversized pizzas! We build the pizzas on parchment paper, because it makes for easy launching, and the markings on the mat are dark enough you can see right through the parchment paper. It shows pizza diameters from 8” to 16” in 2” increments. The silicone is nice and thick, it feels like quality and I have no doubts it will last a very long time. The non-stick surface is very nice and makes for easy cleanup, just drag it over to the sink and rinse it off. While it is made for pizza, you could use it for rolling out dough for pies, cookies, or whatever. At 20” x 20” is it large enough that it could be a nice surface for kids to play with play dough on. Even though it is quite large, storage is easy because it rolls up nicely, so that you can easily tuck it away.
Conclusion: It is a little expensive for a mat, but it will last a lifetime, it has restored peace to our Backyard Theater kingdom and there are no more ruined pizzas, I just wish I had bought it sooner.
